2. Toss in the chopped onion, garlic, carrots, and celery in the same saucepan. To soften and release their aroma, sauté the veggies for around seven to seven minutes.
3. Put the browned meat back into the saucepan. Add the pearl barley, bay leaves, dried thyme, salt, pepper, chopped tomatoes (and their juice), and beef broth. Sauté until the barley is opaque. After you've stirred everything well, bring it to a boil.
After it comes to a boil, lower the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for around 1.5 to 2 hours. Make sure to stir the mixture regularly until the barley is cooked and the meat is soft.
5. Be cautious while removing the bay leaves after the food is done. Add more salt and pepper to taste after tasting the soup. Warm it up and top it off with some fresh parsley for a beautiful presentation.
