Preparation:
1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F.
2. Prepare Baking Sheets:
Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
3. Prepare Puff Pastry:
Cut the puff pastry dough into 3 strips along the fold marks. Place the strips on the baking sheet and poke a few holes in each strip with a fork. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
4. Make Pastry Cream:
– In a medium saucepan, bring the milk to a simmer.
– In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the simmering milk, stirring frequently for about 6 minutes or until thickened.
– Beat the egg yolks and add them to the saucepan, cooking for an additional 2 minutes while stirring frequently.
– Add the vanilla extract and butter, then remove from heat. Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
5. Assemble Millefeuille:
– Divide each baked puff pastry strip into 2 layers using a fork.
– Spread pastry cream on one layer and add chopped strawberries.
– Repeat the layers, ending with a top layer of puff pastry.
6. Finish and Serve:
Decorate the assembled millefeuille with a dusting of powdered sugar before serving.
